Prague 10: Brand New or a Renovated City Hall?

Thinking of running a high-cost and high-impact project? Want to receive citizens feedback and see what their real needs are? See, how they did it at Prague 10.

Client Introduction

Prague 10 is a municipal district of Prague with more than 100.000 inhabitants.

Issue

In 2015 the authorities of Prague 10 decided to improve the Municipal Office (MO) building. However they needed feedback on two suggested solutions: reconstruction of the existing building or construction of a new town hall. Additionally, the authorities wanted to measure residents' satisfaction with amenities and services and the possibilities of improving them.

D21 solution

D21 built multiple optimized polls and conducted a survey with a representative sample of 997 residents of Prague 10 district over 15 years old. The data was collected in form of personal interviews on November 23-28, 2015 in various parts of Prague district 10.

Results

In this survey, we found that only 18% of the residents were in favor of the relocation of the MO. As the result, the Prague 10 district received citizens' approval of the reconstruction plan, saving the authorities money on construction of a new MO. Additionally, the authorities received information-rich data maps that showed residents' feedback on services and amenities. This information will further be used to help produce more efficient and knowledge-based decisions and actions.

So now not only Prague 10 knows that there is no need to relocate the MO, but also understands what its residents like, need, and would love to change in the future!
